I am the daughter of Daphne who is the daughter of Lenora who is the daughter of Elnora who is...
To know this history is to know that I have been born into a legacy of awe-inspiring strength, fierce integrity, and unbreakable community. I dedicate my life to expounding upon this firm foundation.
I make art and share it as an act of love, an act of defiance, and an act of revolution.
More about the ways my joyful and intentional defiance have manifested can be read below.
About Me
Hi! I am Charence Higgins, a multi-hyphenate performing artist from Madison, MS. I've been blessed to share my talents as an actor, singer, songwriter, poet, model, dancer, event host, director, motivational speaker, and teacher. In April 2016, I received two bachelor's degrees: one in Psychology and the other in Theatre from my HBCU Jackson State University (where I'm proud to say I graduated Summa Cum Laude *insert praise hands emoji*). A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. , I pride myself not only in my artistic talents but in my lifelong commitment to serving my community. In acknowledgement of this commitment, Portico Magazine recognized me as one of the "Top 25 Students Who Will Change the World," and with every passing day I strive to do just that. Throughout my undergraduate years, I showcased my talent in several pageants (winning some titles along the way) and in 2015, I was elected by my peers to become Miss Jackson State University. After graduating from JSU, I spent a short stint teaching elementary school in Jackson, MS then relocated to the East Coast to pursue acting in the DMV. While there, I engaged museumgoers through several historic roles at the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of American History and National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington, DC as a part of the institute's History Alive! interactive theatre. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to perform in theatrical productions across the country in Mississippi, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Maine, Wisconsin, and at the University of Illinois where I graduated from the MFA Acting program. In addition to acting, I have also served as an event host for Mississippi Fashion Week, JSUtv, "Cups of Convo" talk show, the weekly fashion update from "Katie Robert Love + Story," Jackson State University, the 2021 Awards Ceremony for SETC (Southeastern Theatre Conference), and more. As it pertains to my speeches and performances, it has been quoted that “Her mouth speaks from that which fills her heart.”
Thank you again for being here.
